SNAP-Villanova Chapter again designated Stellar School by NSNA

Stellar School Logo updated March 2021

On March 9, the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing鈥檚 chapter of the Student Nurses鈥 Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP-Villanova) was awarded renewal of its designation as a Stellar School by the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), its highest chapter designation.

SNAP-Villanova has been called the most continuously active chapter in the United States by NSNA.  The chapter also is the current holder of the state SNAP鈥檚 highest award, Chapter Excellence (Category 2 for chapters with 100-200 members at the state and national levels).  One of the most inclusive groups on campus, the chapter has members from the traditional 4-year BSN program, as well as the Transfer program, and BSNExpress program for people coming to nursing with degrees in other areas.

鈥淪NAP-Villanova has been so successful for many reasons, but mainly our commitment to inclusivity. Our advisor, Dr. Carol Weingarten, has always made this the focus of our chapter and it has radiated throughout everything we do,鈥 explains junior Caitlin Gomes, chapter president.

According to its , 鈥...the NSNA Stellar School Chapter Recognition Program recognizes NSNA school chapters that demonstrate ongoing involvement in NSNA, including a strong commitment to shared governance and professional development of their students and faculty.鈥

Longtime chapter advisor, Associate Professor Carol Weingarten, PhD, RN, ANEF notes, 鈥淏eing a Stellar School reflects the excellence of SNAP-Villanova鈥檚 members and leaders and all the support from the FCN and Villanova that fosters the chapter鈥檚 success.  SNAP-Villanova remains one of few chapters in the United States to have earned Stellar School status.鈥

Gomes points to members鈥 enthusiasm for SNAP and their efforts in legislation, leadership, and professional development as extending through any format 鈥 in-person or virtual 鈥 and level of work, saying, 鈥淭his enthusiasm is not only seen at Villanova, but also on the state and national level. I am very proud to be helping to lead this Stellar School chapter and cannot wait to see it continue to grow.鈥
